Dear Lady who is very worried about her troubled 17 year old son, From your description of your boy, he sounds like he is tracking pretty much like I did around that age, though I never ran away from home despite daydreaming about it constantly. I live 10,000 miles away from the US mainland on an island in the middle of the Pacific (Saipan) making anything more than email conversation impractical. It's not much of an offer, but maybe a little cross sharing will help him sort his head out. What saved me was one friend when I was seventeen, someone who included me from time to time and listened to me. That one person was the first real friend I had had since I was 8 years old. And even though our acquaintence only lasted about 18 to 24 months, that was enough to eventually get me back in Church and that changed the whole course of my life for the next 25 years. In the personal department I was raised Southern Baptist, was a Methodist lay preacher for a year, became a Charismatic for around 20 years, left that and have since become a member of the Orthodox Church. On top of that,I am a certified High School teacher and I worked in a boy's home for several months many years ago. I've seen boys like your son, I've been one, and I'm willing to offer what miniscule help that I may. Robert. Someone please help me! I am a Christian women, I have been serving the Lord for almost 16 yrs now and am now facing the biggest trial of my Christian life.
My husband of 12 yrs and I have separated. We both fellowshipped at the same church all our married life, I was always very active in the work of the Lord, and he seemed to be always on the reluctant side. We have always had major problems in our marriage, we have had many attempts at counselling, but nothing seems to work. I feel that I am a submissive wife according to the Scriptures, and he seems to abuse this privilege. We have only been separated since 1st march 1999, before that I had moved out of the marriage bed , because he had told me that he's had 3 affairs since we have been married. We have 4 beautiful boys together, and I don't know where I stand on Devorce according to the Scriptures. The boys really need a positive male figure around, but I don't think that I could live with this man after he has broken his vowel and commitment to me. I don't know what to do, I feel that God has something good install for us, but I don't know what it is. On our last attempt at counselling, he actually told the pastor, that he felt that he(pastor) would not be able to help us. Hi Jack. Hope you are a strong and faithful man. You are going to need every ounce of both that you can muster, but that is true of parenting in general! I have seen this done really successfully only once. There are three keys. 1. Pray without ceasing. 2. This is more about you and their mother and them and their mother than it is about you and them. This one is easily forgotten so sear it into your memory! 3. Humility will be your strongest asset.   Step-parenting is tricky and although you are dealing with big people, they aren't adults. You will be the new person and the obvious scapegoat for anything that goes wrong. Stay out of the way. Allow their mother to do the parenting. That is what they are all used to. Your job will be to stay in the background offering support and reinforcement and help with homework. You and the mother can discuss parenting issues in private. If the child comes to you, you can give good counsel but refer them to their mother for the final decision. Talk to her in private. When the kids have an issue, you will not be the cause (which is typical in step-parenting) you will be the mediator. The mom needs to be the heavy. You are her support system. You and she need to discuss all of this in advance and be prepared for this. It is not possible for you to walk into this situation and take over as head of the house. That is a spiritual designation and works fine in the spiritual areas. You can usher your family to church and preside at the table and lead the family in prayer and be a wise spiritual advisor and mentor. There are plenty of opportunities for you to lead. But when it comes to discipline and tough parenting issues, let mom take the lead, at least while you are all integrating as a family. You will find that the kids will invite you into decision making ("maybe Jack can talk some sense into Mom") instead of resenting your interference. Things will be much the same as they have always been but mom will have some support, companionship, friendship and you won't be a target for every negative emotion in the house! This effectively eliminates the power struggle. Be humble and be the adult. God Bless . KK

I hope this is relevant, but in keeping to the policy of not binding extra-scriptural concepts upon people who at the least want to be faithful, I did a study regarding Jesus' walk on the water and found some rather interesting points. It clarified, for me, that Jesus would have never told Peter that he lacked faith if he could not keep his feet above the water line. It has come to my attention that Jesus did not demonstrate any sort of testimony through special effects and magic tricks, but had compassion to teach that his father was able toprovided, when and only when that person believed. (As Jesus gave God the "go ahead" in each recorded case) In as far as Peter was concerened, if he was a swimmer, would have not been so stricken with fear in the water, so near the boat. If however he, as well as all the other
fishermen, were afraid of drowning, as non-swimmers are, then the whole passage would make perfect sense, sensibly indicating that Peter had already attempted swimming and had succeeded in a few prior attempts, in possibly shallower or less rough waters. This takes the confusion out of anyone thinking that they might have a lacking of faith, due to the apparent reasoning of not being able to walk on water.For me, it makes perfectm sense that Jesus never walked on the water, but treaded the water, as any reasonable person should, and would sensibly teach within any compassionate ministry.  I would like to discuss this further with others if possible. Brad, I have read your letter, I identify with some of your feelings of worthlessness and feeling unappreciated. If we feel this with our associates and family, we wonder how God could have any time for us. Do you agree.? I have read a book that has really opened my eyes. In fact I have read it several times now. It is called The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen. He was a Catholic priest, you may not get this in an evangelical bookshop, but The Open Door a Lutheran supplier would keep it. Maybe even the library as ours has a couple of his. I urge you to get hold of it and read it, even if you do not normally read much. Listen to this "The prodigal's return is full of ambiguities. He is travelling in the right direction, but what confusion! He admits that he was unable to make it on his own and confesses that he would get better treatment as a slave in his father's house than as an outcast in a foreign land, but he is still far from trusting in his father's love.He knows that he is still the son, but tells himself that he has lost the dignity to be called the "son" and he prepares to accept the status of the" hired man " so that he will at least survive. There is repentance, but not repentance in the light of the immense love of a forgiving God. It is a self serving repentance that offers the possibility of survival. I know this state of heart and mind quite well. It is like saying:"Well I couldn't make it on my own, I have to acknowledge that God is the only resourse left to me. I will go to God and ask for forgiveness in the hope that I will receive a minimal punishment and be allowed to survive on the condition of hard labour." God remains a harsh judgemental God. It is this God who makes me feel guilty and worried and calls up in me all these self serving apologies. Submission to this God does not creat true inner freedom, but breeds only bitterness and resentment"  Later"One of the greatest challanges of the Christian life is to receive God's forgiveness..........While God wants to restore to me the full dignity of sonship I keep insisting that I will settle for being a hired servant....Receiving forgiveness requires awillingness to let God be God and do all the healing ,restoring and renewing"  Brad before you did anything he loved you, you were the beloved son. Have been trying for over ten years now for a new position at my present place of work or outside of it. I am feeling like a leper in many ways.   Unworthy , unwanted, embarrassed to keep trying or admit to family and friends that I did or do. I pray and have faith in God and then....nothing..? My daughter was goin to pray for a friend in a car accident ..what do i tell her..? She can pray...but   although he doesnt seem to answer me..but ignore me...he will here her prayers for her friend and help her..? I have had enough bad luck, family sickness and disease and personal probs..to last me a lifetime...i am just tired..just want to sleep...then other Christians tell me he is answering me but i cant hear him or dont want to..? give me a break...Brad

I have just discovered your site. Until 2 years ago I could not turn on the computer, wasn't interested either. Then one day,I had one of those fascinating experiences where God tapped me on the shoulder and said, I want you to learn the computer, immediately my attitude was changed. I wanted to learn . Anyone who knows me will tell you how much I had avoided and rubbished the machine!! I have not had any idea why he would want me to learn, what use it could be to me...or anyone. This morning I have written down a couple of email addresses of people to whom I will write.Maybe this is what God had in mind.
To the lass who wasn't sure of her salvation, I went years like this too. But God is true to his word. He has said COME and I WILL receive you, I will put my arms around you, you are my beloved child. It is like a legal process, he has said it, it is done. Nothing can change that. Why does a loving God allow pain and suffering to exist if He has the ability to control everything? The Lord has sacrificed His only Son to give us the chance to be reconciled. He has offered to forgive all our sins if we would just accept His Son as our Lord and Savior. He has kept His promises to the tee and offered us much more than we deserve.And He promises us an eternity with Him in heaven. All He wants is our love.But all we can do is moan and groan about our suffering and demand He do something about it. Our ungrateful ignorance is but a clue to the true nature we own. The impatient child never appreciates
the long-suffering patience of the parent.

Jack,   I am a 17 year old girl who had a step-father. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in everything. If you depend on Him and not yourself it will be easier. Ask God to help you bond with your step-children. Remember that even though you are not there biological father they are going to need not only a spiritual leader too. They see everything you do, and they WILL analyze it to the max.  It doesn't all have to be a uphill battle though. Especially if the 13 year old likes the idea of you being his step-father. The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY came upon me the 15, 16-17, and 26th of July. On the 15th the LORD'S presence stayed approximately 20 minutes. On the 16th the LORD again filled me, and my home and stayed until the 17th.  A total of 20 hours.  I have attempted to call back the LORD many times, unsecessfully.  Unexpectedly on the 26th the LORD came again for  approximately 6 hours. Those who have experienced this (and they are relatively few) know what I am saying. I speak not to them for they already know the TRUTH. I shall say this, take heart, you are not 'nuts' it is real and thank the LORD he has revealed himself to you. For those who have been entertained by the LORD know one another through what they say and descibe.  I am reluctant messenger because it is hard for me(and impossible for some) to accept, that LORD GOD of the UNIVERSE has chosen me. Well this is no longer an issue nor a choice, I remember Lot's wife, and dare not look back. Michael

Dear Lisa, I seem to have a little of the same situation you do.   When I married my husband I was a believer.  I was not saved, nor was I a servant of the Lord.  My husband was brought up in the church, and we had attended church once together and we were married in a church.  I received Christ as my personal savior last year,and I am serving him.  Of course the
subject has come up with my husband.  He informs me he does not believe.  Of course this causes some problems.  Especially with the bringing up of our child ( mine from a previous).  I understand your situation.  I will pray for you.   Have you heard of the book, "Prayers that avail much"?  There are intercessory prayers, salvation prayers, etc...  Prayer these over your husband.   Pray them everyday.  God says his word will not return to him void.  And when you are saved, so shall your household be saved.  I'll have to look up the scriptures so I can give you exactly where they are.  Pray to the Lord as if you've already
got what you are asking for.  ie "  Lord, Thank you so much.  You are so wonderful.  Thank you Lord for Jorge being saved.  He is a might man of God!   He follows only Your voice Lord!  He is a righteous man.", etc...   Have faith.  Your husband will be saved.  It may not happen today or tomorrow, but it will happen!  Just as my husband will be saved also.  Jesus loves our husbands more than we do.  He died for them.   Jennifer

I have Christian friends who experience problems they can't understand in their lives. As a believer and a learner from expeience and the Word I can say without a doubt it is our fault not God's when things go wrong in our lives.  The Word says when a man's ways please the Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. If there is sin in our lives, not sins of omission such as not praying enough,etc., but major sin such as adultry, unbelief,etc, then our prayers cannot be answered until our Spiritual lives are in order.  The devil is like a shrewd lawyer, knowing the law of God, he quoted it to Jesus on earth remember.  When we break the laws of God,which we all do to some degree each day, we must call on the Blood of Jesus for cleansing or santification daily.  This is the covering we must stay under to be acceptable in the eyes of the Father!  Back in 1918 the Alabama Baptist had a statewide campaign against the use of tobacco in any form.  Now it's hard to find a church without someone smoking on the doorsteps before service.  In the 1950's as a boy, I remember when devorce was a bad word, and the churches taught you could not remarry unless your spouse was dead, else it was adultry!  Now with many members divorced the modern churches teach these second,third, or more marriages is acceptable.  Why the changes and if these acts were wrong for many yrs,why the acceptace now?  When you marry you take a VOW to death do you part.  It is better not to take a vow than to make it and break it according to the Bible.  My point is, if your life is not where you feel it should be or you are suffering in flesh or soul, pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus, for there is only ONE Name under Heaven whereby we must be Saved, and One Mediator between God and Man, Jesus. Hello, my name is AnnMarie.  This is the first time I'm sending a message.  I am a stay at home mom with three kids.  They are 11,4, and 3.   My husband is a recovering alcoholic and I am in the middle of trying to find some sort of job I could do to bring in some extra money for my family. My grandmother is slowly dying with dimentia and I have been taking care of her too. I feel like I am at my wits end.  I pray regularly and attend church too.  I know God is here with me through this all, but I am having a hard time sorting through all of the responsibilities I have as a mom,wife, and grand-daughter.  I'm only 30 and I still want to go back to college. I can remember praying with my grandmother when I was all of 3 maybe 4 years old for Jesus to come into my life.  When I got older, she told me I wasn't saved until I went before the church. So I did one Easter Sunday.  I was raised in a dysfunctional family that knew church was important, but neglected to go because of our multitude of secrets from the world. I guess I have always felt like an outsider looking in. I was always a good kid and never got into any trouble, but
then again don't remember having a radical life changing expirience that some Christians speak of either.  Again I feel insecure and incomplete. I need to feel comforted, complete and happy inside.  Everytime I hear a preacher describe these lost feelings   I feel like he is talking about me.  So I pray the sinners prayer again and again.  I know in my heart, and I would tell my own children, that once is sufficient for God. So, why do I still feel like I am on the outside looking in?  What should I do?

We are in need of a miracle.  My father, Gerry, was diagnosed with a brain tumor a year ago and is almost at the end of this options.  We have prayed time and again for my father to be healed.  Nothing has seemed to work so far, but we haven't given up yet.  Please say a prayer for him.  He is only 55 and has much to live for.  Thank you very much, Brian Peck

I NEED SOME INFORMATION ON HOW TO CONTACT CHRISTIAN FAMILIES WHO REACH OUT TO MINISTER TO YOUTHS, INCLUDING A ROOM FOR RENT OR INEXCHANGE FOR WORK. MY 17YR OLD SON HAS WITHDRAWN FROM GOD.  HE FIRST RAN AWAY FROM HOME LOOKING FOR A BETTER PLACE WITHOUT PARENTS.  AT ONE POINT WE THOUGHT HE HAD LEARNED WHAT THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER, SO MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK HIM BACK HOME, HOPING AND PRAYING ALL WAS WELL.  HE HAD LEFT AGAIN AND I HAVE SPOKE TO HIM SEVERAL TIMES AND HE DOES NOT SOUND VERY HAPPY.   HE KNOWS HE HAS MADE MISTAKES AND HE FEELS LONELY AND SCARED AND IS SEEMINGLY WILLING TO JUST ACCEPT THE TORMENT AND PAIN OF THE CONDITIONS HE IS CURRENTLY LIVING WITH.   I THOUGHT IF I COULD PERHAPS FIND SOME PLACES AVAILABLE HE
COULD WORK THIS OUT IN HIS HEART AND FOR HIS WELL BEING, SURVIVAL IS ALL CONSUMING HIM WITHOUT REST AT NIGHT FROM VAROUS THOUGHTS THAT CONSUME HIS TIME AND KEEP HIM MORE CONFUSED.  HE APPEARS TO FEEL ALONE AND DIFFERENT FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD.  I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR WHAT TO DO, SEEING MY SON GOING THROUGH THIS HAS ME FEELING HELPLESS.   ANY SUGGESTIONS OR INFO AND LOTS OF PRAYER FOR OUR WHOLE FAMILY IS GREATLY NEEDED

Hello All,  I am about to become the step dad of two teenage boys in June. Would Like to know if anybody out there has been in a similar situation and how did you handle it. The boys have been spoiled by there mom and she admits it.
the younger(13) one has ADHD and is pretty happy with the idea. The old(15) is still in a power struggle with me. Tests me everytime I am there.  Any advice would be appricaited.  Thans in advance, Jack In Jesus Name Jack Gallagher

Hi Tom!  In regards to your posting: First pray for wisdom, understanding and direction. Pray for strength to listen to the Holly Sprit that resides inside you.  Then read 2 Thessalonians, Chapter 2, verse 1-4.  Also, read Revelation 1:7. Listen to the Holly Spirit as you read and it will direct you; maybe to other scripture.  Take Care!!  Rod
